Banshees form part of Irish folklore from century VIII. They're female spirits that, as the legend say, they appear at a person to advice with their wailing the close blood relation's death. They're considered like fairies and messenger from another world.
People believe that the aos si (means "people of the mounds", "people of peace") are remaining deities, nature spirits or revered ancestors for scots before the introduction of Christianity. Some theosophists and celtic christians mean at them like "falling angels".

A banshee can stay a certain distance, too, a solitaire figure that announces the death walking on hills that are around the families' house or sitting on a stone wall. Sometimes she isn't visible, but her deeping wailing leave no doubt respect her presence.
